Lexington man charged for shooting
Lexington Man Charged for Shooting on Smith Avenue Lexington, NC – April 4, 2025 – On Thursday, April 3 at 9:38 p.m., officers received a call for service about a gunshot victim that was at Lexington Medical Center. Officers learned the victim was transported there by private vehicle.
The victim was identified as Jade Campsey, age 25, of Lexington. Officers quickly determined that the shooting occurred on Smith Avenue near Miller Street. The victim is being treated at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. There are no current updates on her condition.
Detectives responded and began the investigation by processing the scene for evidence and interviewing witnesses. This was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing concern or threat to the public. During the ongoing investigation into this shooting incident, detectives have been able to identify the suspected shooter as Christopher Malik Bacote, age 28, of Lexington. Bacote was apprehended and taken into custody without incident today in the 900 block of Ulysses Street in Lexington. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and shooting into an occupied vehicle. The motive for the shooting appears to be domestic violence related.
He is being held in the Davidson County Jail with no bond. His first appearance in court is scheduled for April 7, 2025.
