Dr. Liju Varghs, psychiatrist at Novant Health in Thomasville shares that death rates during the holidays, especially from heart attacks, strokes and natural causes are higher than any other time of the year. There are 2.6 million deaths per year in the United States, and on average, five people grieve per death which results in an average of 13 million people grieving in the US each year. 

Thomasville parade shares the magic of Christmas, Dec. 10th

This year will feature free entertainment for the kids including face paintings and balloon animals, located at the Depot (44 W Main St), Thomasville’s historic train station. Guests are encouraged to bring their little ones between 10:30 and 12:30 p.m. Leading the way, this year's Grand Marshal for the day will be none other than NASCAR driver Timmy Hill of Hill Motorsports. It will additionally feature 115 parade participants and a stilt walker.

After years of working in restaurants and retail management he knew he wanted to start his own business. Due to low start up costs and his passion for great food he started a food truck business. His menu relied on high quality ingredients and focused on simplicity that allowed the ingredients to shine. He wanted to source his ingredients locally however it became very difficult. Small farms were hard to come by in the area of Colorado where he and his wife resided at the time, this caused him to become interested in what it would take to grow his own ingredients. “I had a little experience with gardening from helping my mom and grandma in the garden when I was a kid, but I knew I had a lot I needed to learn,” he says.

Denton Watermelon Festival

On Saturday Aug. 6 from 9am-2pm Denton will host their 6th Annual Watermelon Festival at Harrison Park located at 52 W. Salisbury St. Denton, NC 27239. Juneteenth celebration set for Saturday

For the third year in a row Anything For Our Youth is gearing up for a Juneteenth celebration set for Saturday, June 18th at 3 pm at Dunbar Park on 4th Street in Lexington. The festivities include a pageant and creative writing contest. The historic walking tour will be led by Tyrone Terry, a local civil rights advocate will lead a community walking tour of the historic area that will begin at 2:30 pm.

When they purchased the property in 2008, they didn't intend for it to become a working farm as they had retired. Pamela had an increasing interest in herbal medicine that, coupled with their desire to have a productive second career, led them to a world of sustainable, organic agriculture.
