Smoke & Oak owner gives back in appreciation for Hospice services

Hospice of Davidson County holds great significance for owner Courtney Crowson, who has personally witnessed the team’s commitment to providing compassionate care during life's most challenging moments. Crowson represents one of many local businesses supporting Hospice of Davidson County as it marks its 40th anniversary.

On Friday, January 17th, Crowson’s lounge, The Smoke & Oak, will host the Hospice team. Hospice staff will be available to greet community members starting at 5 pm. Entry is free. Additionally, The Smoke & Oak will feature a specialty cocktail for January: a toasted marshmallow old-fashioned, with proceeds benefiting Hospice. This year of celebration will include a variety of pop-up events, special gatherings, and other festivities.

“As a former advocate of adults for DSS Adult Protective Services, I had many cases in which clients needed services from Hospice of Davidson County,” Crowson offered.

“It was during my career that I gained a profound appreciation and respect for the folks at Hospice of Davidson County.  I can remember walking families through the end-of-life process and Hospice staff was instrumental during these difficult times.  As an Entrepeneur, I jumped at the opportunity to partner with Hospice to raise funds for their organization.  Smoke and Oak have been avid supporters of Hospice the past 2 years and look forward to future collaborations,” Crowson offered.

Hospice began serving patients in 1985, initiated by a committed group of volunteers, making it the first in Davidson County. This award-winning commitment to service has remained at the heart of the organization as it continues to provide compassionate, expert care to countless patients and their families.

Laura Owen Chief Executive Officer added, “In celebration of our 40th service year anniversary, we are hosting pop-up events throughout the year. We want to bring visibility to local businesses that support our work, to speak more informally with individuals who may have misconceptions about the benefits of hospice care, and most importantly, find new ways to foster partnerships that enhance caring for our community,” explained Laura Owen. “We are a local agency with a national reputation, but we never lose sight of the fact that our foundation was built by our local community, and our future success relies on our continued partnerships.”

Hospice has an exciting lineup of events and announcements planned for the year, in addition to the usual annual fundraisers. The next event is the inaugural Signature Spirits Soirée, a limited-ticket gathering scheduled for February 8th at Adaumont Farm, located at 4941 Finch Farm Rd, Trinity, NC. Ticket prices include a surf-and-turf dinner, a Smoke & Oak bourbon tasting flight, desserts and a limited open bar. This will include a raffle, prizes, cigars and premium bourbon. Interested attendees are encouraged to secure tickets soon for this unique fundraising experience.
