Learn about LCS' Spanish Immersion Program

Lexington City Schools (LCS) Dual Language Immersion Program is currently enrolling students for the upcoming 2022-23 school year. Started in 2019, “Language immersion program is exciting option for parents who want their children to have the advantages of a rigorous academic program while also learning two languages - English and a target language. For example, in a Spanish immersion program, Spanish is not a subject; Spanish is the language in which instruction is delivered,” as stated in Participate Learning Dual Language Program brochure.

Thomasville council votes to dissolve multicultural committee

A multicultural committee formed in 2012 was recently dissolved by the city of Thomasville. The unanimous vote by the council cited “over the past several years, the multicultural committee has deviated from the primary mission of promoting and embracing all of the community's cultures and has expressed interest in focusing on a more narrowly tailored group of cultures,” and in a resolution to dissolve the group.

Poetry camp promotes SMARTS Arts in Education

During summer 2022, ADC received a grant from Novant Health and contracted with Phillip Shabazz, a well-known poet, author, and teaching artist to bring his "Powers of Poetry Project" to Davidson-Davie Community college for a teen summer camp for up to 25 teens. The "Powers of Poetry Project" is a creative writing workshop which concludes with a celebratory Poetry Slam.
