From immigration to Fentanyl: Congressman Addison McDowell's statements in his own words
The McDowell Report is a weekly newsletter from Congressman Addison McDowell, who serves as the U.S. Representative for North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District. That district includes all of Davidson, Davie, and Rowan counties, as well as portions of Cabarrus, Forsyth, and Guilford counties, covering areas around Greensboro, Concord, and Winston‑Salem. The following comes directly from this week’s newsletter.
Here's what I'm supporting:
I voted for H.R. 2351 to strengthen the Coast Guard’s ability to fight drug trafficking by expanding its authority to prosecute cases involving unmanned vessels or drugs smuggled aboard without the crew’s knowledge. It also requires naloxone and other lifesaving overdose treatments to be available at Coast Guard facilities.
I voted for HALT Fentanyl Act to fight against the opioid and fentanyl crisis by reauthorizing key public health programs that help prevent drug overdoses, provide access to treatment for those in need, and permanently extend President Trump’s 2018 Schedule I classification of fentanyl-related substances to give law enforcement the tools they need to keep Americans safe from dangerous illicit drugs.
I voted for the Rescissions Act of 2025 to rescind $9.4 billion in wasteful and fraudulent spending identified by the Trump administration.
I voted for the Protecting Our Nation’s Capital Emergency Act to support law enforcement by restoring collective bargaining rights for the Metropolitan Police Department and a statute of limitation for disciplinary cases.
I voted for H.R. 884 to prohibit individuals who are not citizens of the United States from voting in elections in the District of Columbia.
I voted for the District of Columbia Federal Immigration Compliance Act to end the D.C. Council’s sanctuary city policies by mandating they must provide immigration status of an individual in custody and ensure they comply with Homeland Security investigations and Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer requests.
I cosponsored the Mental Health in Aviation Act to require the FAA to improve its medical clearance process for pilots who seek mental health services.
I cosponsored the Birthright Citizenship Act to limit birthright citizenship by properly defining what it means to be subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.
I cosponsored the Mobilizing Against Sanctuary Cities Act to make ineligible for federal financial assistance any any jurisdiction that limits communication with the Department of Homeland Security or fails to honor ICE detainers
I cosponsored the H.Con.Res.8 to recognize the independence of Taiwan and push for Taiwan's admission to the United Nations.
I cosponsored the No Passports for Terrorists and Traffickers Act to allow the Secretary of State to deny passports to and revoke passports from individuals who have provided material support to terrorist organizations.
I joined my colleagues from North Carolina in sending a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to urge their full and fair consideration of a critical pipeline application.
