April 2, 2025 Jury Convicts Sylvester Thompson of First-Degree Murder and Robbery THOMASVILLE – A Davidson County jury has found Sylvester DeJesus Thompson guilty of first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the 2019 homicide of Bennie Vines. On Friday, March 28, 2025, Superior Court Judge Alyson Grine sentenced Thompson to life without parole for the first-degree murder conviction.

On Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 1:16 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the intersection of National Highway and Pleasant Grove Church Road in reference to an accident involving a motorcycle. The operator of the 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle, Charles Seech, 27, of Lexington, was traveling north on National Highway when a 2014 Cadillac, operated by Cathy Pennington, 66, of Thomasville, turned into the path of the motorcycle from Pleasant Grove Church Road.

Thomasville Police investigate two deaths and inadequate staffing at local nursing home

On Sunday, January 16, 2022, at 7:56 pm, Thomasville police officers responded to Pine Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center after receiving calls that staff could not be contacted by telephone and had not been seen by some residents of the facility. Officers arrived on scene and determined there was inadequate staffing to accommodate the 98 patients of the facility.
