Algorithms form the core of any computer program or software.
Don’t get it twisted. The internet runs on algorithms - they offer the computers a series of instructions to tackle every task that comes their way.
In summary, an algorithm is a step-by-step procedure or a set of rules that a computer is to follow to tackle a given task. It’s designed to know how you move. Before you do.
All online searching is accomplished through them. Email knows where to go thanks to algorithms. Smartphone apps contribute to algorithms. Computer and video games are algorithmic storytelling. Online dating (How I met my husband Jim). Social media book-recommendation and travel websites would not function without algorithms.
People tell me they want to go off “the grid.” It’s almost impossible if you have a cell phone. Even if you turn your phone off…someone can find you easily through apps. Every time I misplace my cell phone and ask Google Echo to “find my phone”…I am thankful for those imposing moments of technology.
GPS mapping systems get people from point A to point B via algorithms. Artificial intelligence (AI) is fueled by algorithms. The material people see on social media is brought to them by algorithms. In fact, most of what people see and do on the web is a product of algorithms.
But our news is different! We are digital but not driven by “the grid.” That’s why we need your help spreading the word. We are trying to share hyperlocal news… organically.
We’re driven by leads, photos, press releases and contributions by the people of Davidson County.
