August 28th is National Sport Sampling Day
Childhood is all about learning and exploring. On National Sport Sampling Day, we are inspiring kids to take action by exploring more than one sport. We are also asking your inner child to get out and to try something new.
Today is the 241st day of the year or August 28th and it is National Sport Sampling Day. This day encouraging everyone, especially kids, to try a new sport or play one that they haven’t played in a long time. There are many benefits to engaging in sports. Other than the obvious physical health benefits, sports also promote mental health and social development.
National Sport Sampling Day was created to foster our love of sports and to mainly interest children in engaging in numerous sports by sampling more than one sport. Sampling sports allows everyone to enter into a world of new experiences and personal growth.
An international movement called 2-4-1 CARE supports the bravery to explore other sports and bring fun back to playing.
What is 2-4-1 CARE?
2-4-1 gives kids the freedom to explore imaginative, creative ways, to put play back into sports. They encourage kids to be their best selves, creating confidence, friendships and joy for life. 2-4-1 CARE is building their reputation by approaching sport-sampling in local schools and recreational centers nation wide.
2-4-1 follows the principles of the American Development Model (ADM) and Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). 2-4-1 is the premier Sport Sampling program in North America and is focused on fostering Physical Literacy in young athletes.
Over the past generation opportunities for kids to go outside and play unstructured sports has nearly vanished. Well-meaning youth sports programs have become increasingly specialized and too often feel more like work than play. Programs are often hyper-instructive, dependent on adults to organize and lead, leaving little opportunity for kids to use their creativity and imagination. Sport sampling is the perfect solution, because it puts play back into sports. When kids sample new sports they learn how the skills of one sport transfers to another. But that’s not all, sport sampling develops confidence, builds friendships and creates the likelihood that this generation will be active for the rest of their lives. Giving kids both choice and voice in the sports they participate in, increases the probability that they will “own” and experience. joy in a variety of sports. Life’s 2 Short 4 Just 1 Sport™ has become the mantra for sport sampling advocates across the country.
