Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - August 4, 2023
Dear Friends,
We are rolling into August this week and looking forward to our next voting sessions in the chambers while closing in on the budget targets. I know many of your summer activities will be coming to a close as you anticipate a new school year, take your annual trip to the beach or just await the cooler days of Fall.
I would like to commemorate two important events for the veterans of our great nation. The first is Purple Heart Day, which is a tribute to those who gave up so much for our freedom and paid heavy physical prices during service. The second tribute is in honor of the U.S. Coast Guard's birthday. Our Coast Guards' men and women serve so bravely to defend our domestic waters.
Recent news accounts have mentioned a budget consensus with the tax cuts that will occur for taxpayers. Details haven't been released, so we are eager to hear what North Carolinians can expect for income relief.
The NC Department of Insurance has received a Rate Request from the NC Rate Bureau for an increase in dwelling insurance policies. Learn how this will affect you if you are a rental property owner by reading the Media Release below. Please send in your opinion to the NC DOI while they accept feedback using the link below.
Now you will be able to get a Voter ID in all 100 elections offices in NC counties. Keeping integrity in the voting processes for our citizens is important.
With this new service, it will be even easier to maintain accurate vote counts for the upcoming elections.
Thomasville Community Ministry will be receiving funds from the Golden LEAF organization. This ministry serves as a food pantry for our area, and I am so happy they are being recognized for their outreach to help those in need.
NC DOT is closing down another road in Mocksville. If you take care to avoid the area, your daily travels will be much smoother! The improvements will help ease traffic delays in the future.
Our beloved Kerley's BBQ has closed down after 45 years in business! We will miss this locals' favorite eating spot and I wish a peaceful, healthy retirement to the hard-working Kerley Brothers.
Big Toys day is destined to be a good time for the family this weekend at the Davidson County airport. This event is sponsored by Communities in Schools, and the collection of items to explore will definitely be worth the visit. Don't miss the chance to fly with an experienced pilot in a small passenger plane!
