Faith and Fellowship: The King is Coming Part 2
Have you ever wondered what the Virgin Mary, was doing when the Angel Gabriel appeared to her, maybe she was busy doing housework, maybe she was in her room reading or maybe she was outside. What ever Mary may have been doing, I am so glad God chose her. When the Angel Gabriel appeared with the announcement to her, that she was going to give birth to the Savior of the word, Jesus Christ. “In the sixth month the Angel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David, the virgin name was Mary. And he came to her and said, Hail, O favored one, the Lord is with you”. Luke 1: 26-28
Mary asked the Angel, How could this be, that I will give birth to a son, Being that I am a virgin? The Angel answered, the Holy Spirit will come on you, and God’s power will rest on you. He also told Mary that her elderly relative. Elizabeth was six months pregnant for there is nothing that God cannot do. Mary replied, “ I am the Lord’s servant”. When Mary accepted what God wanted she was taking a risk. She probably would have to face public shame and perhaps, Joseph would be angry, Yet Mary accepted what the angel told her. The King Is Coming!
Mary and Joseph will be tested by a miracle, Joseph was a good and kind man, when he learned that Mary was going to have a baby, he did not know what to do because the baby was not his child, he may have thought he should not marry her. Matthew 1: 18-19 One night the angel came to Joseph in a dream and told him that Mary’s baby was the Son of God. The Angel told Joseph, to marry Mary, and name the baby Jesus. Matthew 1:20-21 , Joseph obeyed the angel and married Mary.
Mary and Joseph left Nazareth and traveled to visit a relative Elizabeth in the hill country of Judah. Mary’s visit would serve several purposes. It would minimize the talk, that was probably going to happen in the village, when people would find out that she was pregnant, Mary also wanted to confirm that message that she received from the angel that Elizabeth was pregnant. Joseph made the arrangements for the travel, they would travel past Jerusalem to get to the home of Zecharias and Elizabeth, who lived southwest of Jerusalem.
When Mary entered the house of Zecharias and Elizabeth , she greeted Elizabeth, saying “Shalom”, peace. At the sound of Mary’s voice, Elizabeth’s baby leaped in her womb. Elizabeth was amazed by Mary’s willingness to agree to carry the Son of God, for without a doubt Elizabeth knew the King was coming. Mary and Elizabeth both expressed in awe how it felt having been chosen by God, for such a rich Blessing. The two were extremely blessed to be a part of God’s Plan.
As we meditate on the word of God this week, Let us prepare to make room for the King! Holy God, as we open our eyes to see you, our ears to hear you, and our hearts to perceive the ways you are at work in our lives. We make room for we know, The King Is Coming.
