He wrote in a thank you message on X formerly known as Twitter on the election results stating, “Tonight’s election result was not the outcome we were hoping for, we can all hold our heads high knowing that we left it all out on the field. I want to thank all of our grassroots volunteers and supporters who worked tirelessly for this campaign and I offer my most sincere and heartfelt gratitude for their efforts. I never imagined that a former factory worker who grew up poor in Greensboro could go on to serve as the first black lieutenant governor of North Carolina, a role that is the honor of a lifetime. Your spirit and support lifted us up and I’ll always be grateful to all of you.”
