Lexington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc hosts Books for Babies Project
The Lexington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. recently collected over 425 new books through the sorority’s national charitable partnership with the March of Dimes of Lexington. The project, Books for Babies, received 90% membership participation in book collections. The sorority collected new books over a 6 month period from a variety of subjects including books in Spanish.
During the August 2024 Chapter Retreat, members prepared books for delivery with much anticipation for the positive impact that the books would have on new mothers, newborns and their siblings in recognition of November being designated as National Prematurity Awareness Month. The collection of books were delivered to the UNC Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on October 28th and are now available for parents to read to their babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and/or provide books for big brother and big sister to enjoy while visiting their sibling. Feedback from staff members at UNC has been extremely positive with heartfelt appreciation for the books that were given during the visit.
Lexington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. enthusiastically works towards projects and programs to support their national Five Point Programmatic Thrust.
