Hospice Davidson County invites you to a creative counseling painting event

Hospice of Davidson County (HODC) invites you to an evening of creative counseling on Thursday, April 25th at the HODC Campus in Lexington.

The community is invited to attend a free painting event on Thursday, April 25th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Held on the HODC Campus (200 Hospice Way, Lexington), the creative counseling event will be facilitated by Emily Sullivan, LCMHCA. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

The creative counseling paint event will provide participants with step-by-step instructions for painting an original piece of art designed by Emily Sullivan, HODC Bereavement Counselor. “This particular painting was created to demonstrate hope after loss. Each person will be able to create their own individualized version of the painting,” explained Ms. Sullivan. “Participants will also be encouraged to share their own stories of loss, grief, healing, and hope as we journey through the painting process together.”

No painting experience is required and all supplies will be provided, including light refreshments.

While this event will be open and free to the community, space is limited and registration is required either by calling 336-475-5444 or visiting the HODC website.

Ms. Sullivan obtained her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and holds a counseling license that allows her to guide families in their journeys of grief and loss (LCMHCA).

She is experienced working with children, teens, adults, and seniors in both private practice and nonprofit settings. Additionally, Ms. Sullivan earned a minor in Studio Art (Painting, Drawing, Printmaking) during her undergraduate studies, which inspired the creative counseling painting event.

“Creative activities like painting and crafting allow us to process our emotions differently,” shared Ms. Sullivan. While we offer many opportunities at Hospice for people to talk about losing a loved one, this event is unique in that it combines the option of discussion with the activity of painting.

Participants will leave with a physical canvas representative of their experience and our shared discussion.”

Ms. Sullivan joined the HODC Team in 2020. Her role as Bereavement Counselor entails providing resources through a variety of avenues to our community, including individualized grief counseling, facilitating a monthly support group, providing educational groups for students at

Davidson County Schools, coordinating an annual professional conference on grief and loss, assisting with memorial programming, and collaborating with community partners to provide educational programs. “The experience of grief, loss, and healing is universal to everyone but unique in how each individual experiences it. I have respect for each client’s individual grief experience, and I’m honored to be a part of their journey.”
