Hello Neighbor: Nissi Roberts "The Show Must Go On"

Lexington native, Nissi Roberts wants to give the entire world a gift. Roberts, lately is living a dream that she never knew even existed within her as the writer, director and one of the featured performers of her stage production, We All Have A Cross To Bear. The production was originally scheduled for performance on January 11th in Lexington, but was postponed due to inclement weather. However, now the show must go on.

While she is aiming for standing room only, Robert’s hope is for the production to be more impactful than anything else. “I want a light to go off in everyone’s head that sees my play. I want everyone to realize that they already have the victory and that they are the righteousness of God.”

We All Have A Cross To Bear was born out of her personal experiences. Roberts revealed that upon leaving the burial of her beloved daughter Gabby, that she was so riddled with pain and anger that she suffered a heart attack. During her recovery she began to transpose the stages of grief and to have conversations with God that she says lead her to acceptance then healing. At that point she needed to do something, so through the encouragement of her husband and children, she began to write. Now she has messages to share that she hopes will ease the minds and burdens of all. The underlying theme of We All Have A Cross To Bear basically asks the question, what do you do when life challenges you and how do you deal with it?

There is a vibrant cast of original characters that carry the production and will captivate the audience with their colorful personalities and humor. Roberts revealed that she did not have an open casting for the production once it was complete. She instead said that she was clearly shown who was perfect for each role. The cast is made of local talent with many of the actors also being great vocalists. Within the play each character confronts their personal challenges in a way that provides both inspiration and hope. When asked what she wanted each attendee to take away with them after witnessing the play Roberts said, “That we each love each other unceasingly, as God loves us.”
