First United Methodist Church in Lexington presents: The 38th Annual Mayme Weaver Preaching Mission “Connecting the Secular to the Sacred” with The Reverend Doctor Arnetta E. Beverly
Dr. Arnetta Beverly is the oldest of the four children born to the late Henry Paul Dula and the late Elizabeth Dula Banks. She grew up in Lexington, NC and was graduated from the Dunbar High School in 1964. She attended Winston-Salem State University School of Nursing before moving to New York City.
There she held a variety of jobs: bank teller, funeral director and embalmer, and member of the New York Police Department 30th Precinct Investigations Unit. She returned to Lexington in 1976 and was graduated from the Davidson County Community College in 1984 – Associate’s Degree; Shaw University in Raleigh – Bachelor’s Degree; Duke University Divinity School in 1992 – Master’s Degree and Drew University in 1999 – Doctor of Ministry Degree. She has served several appointments in the Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church; Chestnut Grove and Piney Grove (Davidson and Davie Counties); St. John and Chapel Hill in Eden and Reidsville; Conference Director of Nurture and Ethnic Ministries; Northeast District Superintendent; Conference Director of Connectional Ministries and St. Matthews UMC in Greensboro before retiring in 2016. In 2017, she was appointed to St. Stephen UMC in Lexington, her home church, where she continues to serve.
Arnetta has two dynamic sons, Russell and Ronald, Jr.; two wonderful daughters-in-love, 9 awesome grandchildren and one adorable great-grandchild. She makes her home in Greensboro with her cat, Bandit. The Mayme Weaver Preaching Mission is First United Methodist Church’s gift to our community. Through a generous endowment by Mrs. Doris Haisley in memory of her mother, Mrs. Mayme Weaver, First United Methodist Church in Lexington is able to bring an outstanding preacher to conduct a series of preaching and religious renewal services.
