City Council announces appointment of Johnnie Taylor as Lexington’s City Manager
LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA – Johnnie Taylor has accepted the position of City Manager for the City of Lexington and is scheduled for appointment on Monday, August 28, 2023. The Lexington City Council, following an extensive and comprehensive executive search process, unanimously voted to name Johnnie Taylor as City Manager for the City of Lexington, North Carolina.
Taylor is currently serving as the Interim City Manager for the City of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and brings with him a successful 30-year municipal government track record, serving in multiple management positions across several departments in Winston-Salem. He comes to Lexington as a highly respected and highly recommended leader within the Winston-Salem city workforce and its broader community.
Lexington’s Mayor, Jason Hayes remarked, "We feel both excited and extremely fortunate to have a professional of Mr. Taylor's caliber. His strong commitment to municipal government and the development of the City's workforce are some of the many reasons why our Council feels that he is the right choice for our City."
In addition to serving as the current Interim City Manager for the City of Winston-Salem, Taylor has held many other management positions such as Assistant City Manager, Director of Operations, and Director of Sanitation, amongst many other sectors of local government.
Taylor holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and engineering management and an Associate of Science in computer science from Salem University of West Virginia.
Taylor will assume the position from Ralph Clark who has been serving as the Interim City Manager for the City of Lexington. The Lexington City Council wishes to thank Clark for his service to the City of Lexington and its employees during the executive search process.
