Hearts for Hospice showers patients with love
As people prepare to shower each other with love each Valentine's Day, the annual Hearts for Hospice provides comforting packages to more than 350 patients and families.
Staff says that the community initiative is a highly regarded event at HODC, eagerly anticipated by volunteers and staff each year.
This Valentine-themed event begins with contributions of sweet treats, stuffed animal items, and personal care items donated by individuals, civic groups, and the business community.
Following the drop-offs, a team assembles Valentine-themed goodie bags filled with delightful treats. These lovingly prepared gifts are then delivered to participating patients throughout the service area on Valentine’s Day, creating an opportunity to spread joy, warmth and affection.
Hospice offers thanks for the past six years, during which the HODC Volunteer Department has expertly coordinated Hearts for Hospice, witnessing significant growth with each event.
The staff referred to the 2025 numbers as the most successful year to date. Ashley Milam, the Volunteer Manager, praised the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. "The work every year is made worthwhile when we witness the joy on patients’ faces and share meaningful moments with them. Hearts for Hospice is incredibly touching and inspiring, reminding us all of the true essence of love," said Milam.
Celebrating 40 years of service in Davidson County, this is one of the many ways Hospice underscores the essence of community compassion. They invite anyone interested in exploring volunteer opportunities or supporting the mission to reach out.
Community involvement can make a profound difference in the lives of those served. Milam said, "Our Volunteers are an essential part of our team, and we deeply appreciate their contributions. They find joy in their roles, and we cherish the passion they bring to our mission.”
